Munson, located in Utica, NY, is seeking to fill a full-time Assistant Professor of Jewelry and Metal Arts in its Pratt Munson College of Art and Design program starting Fall 2024. Application deadline is January 31, 2024. Review of applications will begin immediately.

The qualifications of the candidate should include an MFA in Jewelry, Metalsmithing, or related field. Preference will be afforded to applicants with significant experience working in a range of jewelry techniques including cold-connection, fabrication, soldering, casting, metal forming, and basic-advanced stone setting. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach introductory to intermediate levels of traditional methods along with contemporary methods including rapid prototyping technologies. The position includes a 3/3 course load for the academic year including the following courses: Jewelry I, Ideation & Concept for Jewelers, Jewelry II, Lost Wax Casting for Jewelry, Perspectives in Jewelry: CAD/CAM Technology, and a History of Jewelry Design (or a Foundation class depending on enrollment). There is potential to teach in the Community Arts program under an additional contract.
The ideal candidate will oversee and maintain the Jewelry and Metal Arts area studio and equipment that is utilized by both the Pratt Munson college classes and Community Arts programming. They will manage the budget and work with the Jewelry Studio Technician on coordinating the inventory and ordering materials. Our jewelry facility includes a fully equipped metalworking studio, equipped with acetylene/ambient air torch stations, rolling mills, flex shafts, buffing wheels, tumbler, hydraulic press, casting station equipped with 2 kilns, vacuum table, electromelt, and individual benches for students.
Faculty members are expected to be active as creative and exhibiting artists or designers and participate in service to the Pratt Munson program and the organization. Preference will be given to candidates with at least three years experience teaching in higher education.
Salary/Benefits - Academic Year salary of $48,000 with full benefits including health, dental, vision, and group life insurance.

Pratt Munson College of Art and Design is a NASAD accredited foundation college art program, created through an affiliation between Munson in Utica, NY, and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Students complete their first two foundation years of a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at Pratt Munson, and then matriculate to the Brooklyn campus for completion. The Pratt Munson campus houses approximately 200 students majoring in Fine Arts, Communications Design, Photography, and Art and Design Education. Job Description
Munson is continuously seeking applications for the instructor pool of potential part-time and one-time instructors to teach daytime and evening Studio Art classes and workshops. Specifically, artists who qualify to teach in the School of Art non-credit community arts program for kids, teens, and adults.
Ongoing areas of specialization that will be considered include Drawing, Painting, Jewelry, Ceramics, Fashion, Sculpture, Fine Craft, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Animation, Illustration, Art Appreciation, Portfolio Development and more. Artists that focus on teaching specific age groups are also welcome.
All applications will be reviewed and retained for potential opportunities. This position is a “pool” position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. Munson Community Arts maintains a “pool” of applications for workshops or instructor positions which are needed on an ongoing basis. When a position becomes available, the director may immediately begin screening "pool" applications submitted here. Your instructor application will be kept current for a period of three years.
